Elder rock climbing

Discover your strengths, honour your potential, listen to the dreams and fears of your grandchildren, and exchange the wisdom of shared experiences. In a safe harness and supportive environment: climb a rock bluff, rappel from a cliff, slide down a Zip Line and cooperatively solve problems on a Ropes Course.

Learn survival techniques, layered clothing systems, canoeing, orienteering, wilderness etiquette, and enjoy natural history discussions while exploring a sphagnum bog, home of the insectivorous sundew plant; then journey by canoe to False Echo Bay for an (optional) overnight camp-out. Camping equipment will be provided.
Elder group
This program is for active seniors and their grandchildren ages 9-14. Maximum 1 grandchild per grandparent. Children are accommodated in the same room as their grandparents.

Includes accommodation, meals (from dinner on arrival day to breakfast on departure day), guided adventures and group equipment. Cedar chalet accommodation is double occupancy only, shared bathroom (up to 4 people), limited private bath. Smoking prohibited

The Lodge's 160-acre hilly terrain hugs the shores of Upper Campbell Lake near the boundary of Strathcona Provincial Park, 311 km (194 mi) from Victoria and 45 km (28 mi) west of Campbell River (airport) on Vancouver Island (5 hours from Vancouver by ferry and car).

WILDERNESS ADVENTURE on Vancouver Island
2010 Dates July 4-8, August 22-26
$760

Discover the beautiful wilderness of Strathcona Provincial Park. Established in 1911, it is British Columbia’s oldest provincial park and encompasses 544,000 acres in the centre of Vancouver Island, spanning nearly its entire width. The spectacular landscape is characterized by mountain peaks, coastal mountain forests, lakes, rivers and alpine meadows.

Observe the diversity of local flora and fauna on guided nature walks through Coastal Western Hemlock forests; discover and explore one or more of the many pristine waterfalls in the Park; paddle by canoe to the Elk River Delta, a watershed draining into Upper Campbell Lake. Identify and follow animal tracks, identify and collect edible plants and brew your own tea, make traditional bannock bread over a campfire, engage in discussions about the natural history of the area and wilderness etiquette. The highlight of your adventure is a traditional wild salmon BBQ enjoyed on the shores of Upper Campbell Lake.

This is an active program; everyone works at her/his level. Includes accommodation, meals (from dinner on arrival day to breakfast on departure day), guided adventures, equipment and safety gear provided. Cedar chalet accommodation is double occupancy with private bath, single supplement available.
